about
Hazel is associated with wisdom and knowledge in Irish folklore and mythology, and was also an essential and useful tree to our ancient ancestors. This song is an exploration of those associations, myths, tales and uses, partly inspired by the myth of the salmon of knowledge, in which hazel played a crucial role. This is the second single from the Root & Branch series, from The Lyric Feature on RTÉ Lyric FM.
lyrics
Find me down in a hazel wood
Round the well nine trees stood
Trap the fish in the river flood
Find me down in a hazel wood
Seer tell me what you see
Weave the path beneath my feet
Show me to your waters deep
Oh seer tell me what you see
Always young, forever wise
Drop your roots where the well spring lies
Ever growing, never dies
Always young, forever wise
Always young, forever wise
Always young forever wise
Build a shelter, build a home
Grow together, skin and bone
Rings and circles made of stone
Build a shelter, build a home
Find me deep in a hazel wood
Find me deep in a hazel wood
Find me deep in a hazel wood
Find me deep in a hazel wood
